Art Tougeau
The first Art Tougeau parade was held in 1997 “as a way to celebrate creativity and ingenuity, with some good, clean fun on wheels,” according to its website.
Participants transform skateboards, bikes, scooters, cars and other vehicles into pieces of art.
• Street party: A street party with live music and previews of art cars is set for the evening before the parade, 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 24 at 10th and Massachusetts streets, next to Replay Lounge at 946 Massachusetts St.
In addition, the young artists of Van Go will celebrate completion of their latest mural from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at GPW & Associates, 1001 New Hampshire St.
Inside the Replay Lounge, Til Willis and the Erratic Cowboy will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. All guests under age 21 must be accompanied by an adult inside of Replay Lounge, and it will turn strictly 21+ after 9 p.m., according to the bar’s website.
• Parade: Those participating in the parade will line up at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25 in front of the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.
The parade will then begin at noon Saturday, starting at 11th and Massachusetts and moving north to Seventh and Massachusetts before turning back to the arts center. Folks can observe along the sidewalks.
An awards ceremony will follow shortly afterward.
Anyone interested in participating in the parade with their mobile art can register online via a Google form. Registration is also welcome on the day of the event as folks start to line up in front of the arts center.
