BYU-Idaho automotive technology professor teaches about personal revelation in devotional

When Tom Waldron first considered moving to Rexburg to complete his education, he rejected the idea. How would he move his family, including six children, away from their already comfortable home in Mesa, Arizona?

Waldron’s wife, Rolayne Waldron, who was also completing her education at the time, insisted they tour the BYU-Idaho campus before making a final decision.

“We’re walking through campus and you can feel the spirit here. This is a sacred place. And my thought changed from, ‘No, we can’t do it. It will never work,’ to a thought of, ‘Okay, this is something I need to do,’” Waldron said in an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio.

Over a decade later, Waldron is a professor at BYU-Idaho and says he has experienced several blessings along the way, including help from acquaintances.

“The house we were [going] to move into was full of mold. We moved all of our furniture into the garage because it’s moldy in there. And so I’m in the moving truck getting stuff out and here comes this wonderful man. He reaches in his pocket and he pulls out these keys and says, ‘Here’s the keys to my house. It is four doors up. Stay there until you figure out what to do,’” Waldron said.

The automotive technology professor included his experience watching Elder David A. Bednar’s “Patterns of Light” video message, saying that it changed his perspective on personal revelation. In the video, Elder Bednar compares personal revelation to the sun rising, saying that it seldom is like all the lights turning on at once.

Like the sunrise, Waldron said the Lord prepared the way to see how he could make the move in small steps.

Waldron encouraged those listening to his devotional message to find the personal way they receive revelation by increasing their spiritual capacity.

“We can receive revelation in our lives and replace our fear with faith, take the step forward and increase His power in our lives,” Waldron said in his devotional talk.
