CAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards – Jan. 23
RICHMOND, Va. (January 23, 2024) – The CAA announced its first weekly award winners for the 2024 season in men’s and women’s tennis. Honored on the men’s side were Elon sophomore Oskar Antinheimo and the UNCW doubles team of senior Reece Falck and junior Harold Huens. Elon swept the women’s awards with seniors Lizette Reding and Sibel Tanik recognized.
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Oskar Antinheimo, So., Elon (Helsinki, Finland)
Antinheimo went 2-0 at No. 4 singles in Elon’s matches against 15th-ranked Wake Forest and Georgia State last week. The sophomore earned his first ranked win of the season, knocking off No. 78 Franco Capalbo of WFU, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3). He followed with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over GSU’s Diogo Morais. Antinheimo and partner Jack Curtis also had a victory at No. 3 doubles against the Panthers.
CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Reece Falck, Sr., UNCW (Christchurch, New Zealand)
Harold Huens, Jr., UNCW (Waterloo, Belgium)
Falck and Huens helped UNCW capture the doubles point in a season-opening 4-2 setback to 48th-ranked UCF. Playing at the No. 2 position, the Seahawks’ duo defeated UCF’s Liam Branger and Francisco Llanes, 6-3. Falck also picked up a victory in singles, topping Llanes, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 slot, while Huens was leading his match in the third set at No. 1 singles when it was halted.
CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Lizette Reding, Sr., Elon (Leon, Mexico)
Reding recorded the 40th singles victory of her career in Elon’s 5-2 win over Longwood. The senior cruised past the Lancers’ Oriana Izarra, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 2 position. Reding is coming off a strong fall season in which she became the first Elon player to reach the quarterfinals of the main draw at the ITA Carolina Regionals.
CAA Women’s Tennis Double Team of the Week
Lizette Reding, Sr. Elon (Leon, Mexico)
Sibel Tanik, Sr., Elon (Raleigh, N.C.)
Reding and Tanik were part of Elon claiming the doubles point in the victory over Longwood. Playing at the No. 1 position, the tandem rolled over Phoebe Mitchell and Karina Rizvanova, 6-1. It was the 25th doubles win for Reding and Tanik over the last three seasons.
