RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 20, 2023) – The CAA has announced its women’s basketball weekly awards following the second week of the 2023-24 season. North Carolina A&T redshirt sophomore center Chaniya Clark was named CAA Player of the Week, and Drexel freshman guard Laine McGurk earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chaniya Clark, North Carolina A&T

Clark led North Carolina A&T to a 2-0 week, including its first Power Five win since 2019, with 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Against Wake Forest, Clark added 10 points and seven rebounds, helping the Aggies to a 56-51 road victory. Clark made the play of the game, converting an and-one opportunity with 54 seconds remaining to give A&T a four-point lead and secure the ACC victory for the Aggies. On Sunday, she followed the performance with her first double-double this season, leading A&T to a 56-47 win over Liberty with 17 points and 10 rebounds. North Carolina A&T has strung together three straight wins, with Clark reaching double figures in all three contests.  
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Laine McGurk, Drexel
Freshman | G | West Chester, Pa. / West Chester Rustin
McGurk averaged 15.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, helping Drexel to a 1-1 week against city rivals. On Wednesday, the freshman guard poured in a team-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting while adding six rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench. The effort led Drexel to a 71-46 victory over La Salle. On Sunday, McGurk contributed 10 points for her third straight game in double figures despite a setback to Saint Joseph’s.
