MUSTANG TIP-OFF EVENT INFO

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — It’s time for college basketball season and Cal Poly men’s and women’s basketball are kicking off the 2023-24 season this Sunday, Oct. 29, with the first annual Mustang Tip-Off Event: Night of Hoops and Horror at Mott Athletics Center.

It will be a great event for families and kids to attend as well as students and fans of Mustang basketball. Entry is completely free to the event, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a haunted hallway on the second level of Mott Athletics Center for kids and students to get some candy handed out by Cal Poly student-athletes.

Then things in the gym get going at 6 p.m. with both the men’s and women’ teams and coaches being introduced. There will then be a three-point shooting competition by the women’s team followed by a dunk contest by the men’s team with a fan getting a chance to be one of the judges.

Following those, students and fans will get their chance to be involved and have a chance to win some great prizes. There will be a student relay competition, a fan shooting competition, a half-court shot contest, and a best dressed costume contest for the fan who wears the best costume to the event.

Prizes for fans include a Cal Poly parking pass, tickets to both men’s and women’s basketball games this season, a $200 gift card to the Cal Poly bookstore, and autographed basketballs from both teams.

A special surprise skit by both the men’s and women’s teams will finish off the event. Afterwards, fans can stick around and get autographs and photos with players from both teams.

This event will precede both teams getting their season going at home on Nov. 2 at Mott Athletics Center for their first exhibition. The women’s team will host Simpson University at 11 a.m. while the men’s team faces Cal State LA at 7 p.m.
