LIVE STATS — SUNDAY

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s tennis team heads to the Pacific Northwest this weekend to kick-off its dual season.

The Mustangs are set to take on Montana at 11 a.m. Saturday and Gonzaga at 10 a.m. Sunday inside the Stevens Center in Spokane, Wash.

Both indoor matches can be watched via a livestream on the Gonzaga athletics website. Live scoring is available for Sunday’s dual with the Bulldogs, but not for Saturday’s neutral-site match with the Grizzlies.

Cal Poly officially opened its 2024 spring season this past weekend at the Cal Winter Invite. Junior Romane Mosse and sophomores Kennedy Buntrock and Alexandra Ozerets all went a perfect 2-0 in singles play, while sophomore Sarah MacCallum finished 2-1 in doubles to highlight action for the Mustangs.

Saturday’s battle will mark the first all-time meetings between the Mustangs and Montana. The Grizzlies made their first trip to the Big Sky Conference Tournament since 2015 a year ago, falling in the quarterfinals to third-seeded Portland State 4-1 and finishing with a 6-13 overall record. Montana takes on Gonzaga on Friday before squaring off against the Mustangs.

Sunday will mark the sixth all-time meeting between Cal Poly and Gonzaga with the Mustangs emerging victorious in the last matchup on Jan. 22, 2022, defeating the Bulldogs 4-3 in Eugene, Ore. Gonzaga finished with a 13-11 mark in 2023 under second-year head coach Natalie Pluskota-Hamberg, just missing out on qualifying for the West Coast Conference Tournament.

This spring, Cal Poly is seeking its fourth straight trip to the Big West Championship match. During the 2023 season, the Mustangs shredded the school record books once again, recording 14 wins for the third straight season (14-11) — a first in Division I program history. The team also made its first postseason appearance in 12 years, playing in the inaugural Universal Tennis NIT Championship and securing its first match point in postseason play in Division I program history in a quarterfinal loss to No. 62 Colorado.

Following this weekend’s duals, Cal Poly returns to San Luis Obispo to host its home and Big West opener on Saturday, Feb. 3, against UC Davis at the Mustang Tennis Complex.
