The Norfolk Arts Center has an open call for artists to apply for its annual juried show. Now in its 17th year, the juried show is an opportunity for artists of all expertise levels to showcase their latest work.
The show encompasses artwork of all mediums, styles and genres. Twenty to 30 original fine artworks will be chosen for the competition. Monetary awards are given for best of show, first place and second place. The artworks selected for the competition will be exhibited at the NAC.
Each year, a different juror is appointed to curate and judge the competition. This year’s juror is Turner McGehee, professor of visual arts at Hastings College. His expertise includes printmaking, drawing and art history. McGehee’s own works have been exhibited in galleries around the world.
The Hastings College Art Department will simultaneously put on a faculty exhibition at the NAC, making the dual exhibits a dynamic creative vision for attendees.
You do not need to be a professional artist to enter the competition. All work must be original, designed and created by the applicant within the past three years. Applicants may submit up to five pieces for consideration. There are limits on the size and weight of each individual piece, but there are no requirements regarding medium. In the past, sculpture, pottery, photography and lithography, in addition to other traditional art mediums, have been selected.
The juried show is frequently a showcase of the talents of Nebraskans, particularly those in the eastern and northeastern areas of the state.
The deadline to submit is Thursday, Feb. 23. The exhibit will open on Thursday, April 11, and an opening reception, including remarks from the juror, will be on Saturday, April 13. Applications and further details may be found on the Norfolk Arts Center website at norfolkartscenter.org.
