CAMP Rehoboth Community Center’s Wellness Wednesdays programming will kick off with a nutrition series offering workshops and presentations be based on heart health, food labels and kicking the sugar habit.
Heart health: What’s Veg Got to Do With It will be the topic when “Go Veg With Class” author Dorothy Greet presents from 1 to 3 p.m., Nov. 1. A heart attack at age 70 turned Greet’s life upside down and led her on a journey to studying and teaching about plant-based nutrition. Now, with a Cornell Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition, this retired clergywoman has written a book, blogs about her journey and teaches free classes to community groups upon request.
Steuart Martens will present Food Labels: What’s in Your Pantry, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Dec. 6. As a national board-certified health and wellness coach, Martens is dedicated to helping men and women live their healthiest lives. Through group workshops and one-on-one coaching, in person and online, he provides tools and knowledge to equip people to advocate for themselves as active participants in their healthcare. He has taught individual and private group courses in healthy eating to both adults and children. Valuable lessons include how to read food and ingredient labels, strategies and tools to sustain changes for healthy lifestyles, and helping clients reduce dependence on pharmaceuticals and opioids, when relevant.
As a certified lay leader for the Delaware Department of Public Health, Martens facilitates classes on self-management of chronic conditions, chronic pain and diabetes. He contributes to the community through his board memberships with the Village Volunteers and the Rehoboth Beach Boys & Girls Club.
Tom Chaplin will present Kicking the Sugar Habit from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Jan 3. Now retired, Chaplin was an executive recruiter for more than 25 years before launching a career development and health coaching practice. He helped clients build successful careers, reduce stress in the workplace and develop healthy habits that nurture body, mind and spirit.
