Although we’re used to applying our eye cream solely onto the skin underneath our eyes, where the thin skin is most prone to crow’s feet and other signs of aging, Hailey Bieber’s approach to eye cream application makes a lot of sense, if you think about it. If you’re used to moisturizing every inch of your skin, why not the eyelids? They deserve just as much love and care as the rest of your face and body.

As seen on Bieber’s YouTube channel, she goes in with eye cream as a second-to-last step in her eight-step nighttime skincare routine. “I’m usually really, really diligent about eye cream because the eyes are a really, really sensitive area and I’m trying to prevent getting crow’s feet,” she says to her audience. The twist is simply applying eye cream up to the eyelid and the under-eyes, which makes all the difference.
Plus, if you want to imitate Bieber’s delicate finger-tapping motions while applying your eye cream, it can only enhance your anti-aging results. In fact, patting in your eye cream with your ring finger (your weakest digit) will always be the gentlest approach for the eye area. “Dab the product along the orbital bone, starting from the inner corner of the eye to the outside corner,” dermatologist Jaimie DeRosa, M.D., tells Byrdie’s readers. And yes, DeRosa confirms the efficacy of Bieber’s trick: “You will want to do this for both the upper and lower eyelids.”
