Canyon Crest Academy’s Envision Theatre Arts presents fall productions of Xanadu and Middletown


Canyon Crest Academy’s acclaimed Envision Theatre Arts program will present two exciting fall productions: the outlandishly enjoyable musical Xanadu and the thought-provoking play Middletown.

Middletown:  A thoughtful exploration of life’s mysteries

Middletown, by Will Eno, offers a profound and touching reflection on life’s simple and complex moments in a small American town. As the paths of ordinary people crisscross in the town of Middletown, their experiences reveal the beauty, sadness, and humor of existence. This richly layered play invites audiences to consider the extraordinary within the ordinary.

Middletown is directed by Shellina Hefner, a talented and insightful director known for her ability to bring depth and emotional nuance to her productions, creating rich, thought-provoking theatrical experiences.

Xanadu:  A glittering roller disco journey!

Step into a world of neon lights, ancient muses, and roller skates with Xanadu, a magical musical comedy inspired by the 1980 cult classic film. A Greek muse descends to Earth to inspire love, laughter, and the creation of the world’s first roller disco in this fabulous ’80s-infused journey. This high-energy, visually stunning production will leave you with a smile as big as the disco ball that hangs overhead.

Xanadu is directed by Jeannine Marquie, whose dynamic vision brings a fresh, imaginative approach to this colorful, high-energy production. Music direction is by the esteemed Leigh Scarritt, a well-known force in San Diego’s performing arts scene, recognized for her ability to bring out the best in young performers.

The lively and intricate choreography is crafted by Marc Caro-Willcox, whose creative movement designs capture the spirit and fun of the roller disco era. The production is conducted by Nina Gilbert, a highly skilled musician whose expert direction of the orchestra brings the ’80s-inspired score to life with vibrant energy.

Performance dates: Thursday, Oct. 31 at 4:30 p.m. (Special Halloween show. Come in costume!); Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
