Capitol Theatre concert to support Mott Community College music scholarship

FLINT, MI – Alexander Zonjic, a renowned flutist and former Detroit-area radio host, is coming back to Flint for a concert at the Capitol Theatre that will benefit a full-ride music scholarship at Mott Community College.

Zonjic is scheduled to perform a “Smooth, Elegant Evening” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Flint.

The show will feature Zonjic and his award-winning band with multiple special guests, including the MCC Jazz Band and veteran musicians James Lloyd and Jeff Kashiwa.

Zonjic described the show as a high-energy mix of jazz with urban, bluesy and R&B sounds, led uniquely by Zonjic on the flute. It’s not uncommon for audiences to be standing up and dancing during his shows, he told MLive-The Flint Journal.

He is looking forward to performing alongside the MCC Jazz Band because it brings a certain energy to shows when performers are just up there because they love to play music.

“I feel that energy right away,” Zonjic said.

Proceeds from the show will benefit the Music Fellowship Scholarship at Mott Community College, which is a full ride in music.

Zonjic said it was important for him to give back to the musical community because he’s benefited from organized musical institutions throughout his career.

“If you are lucky to get away with this for as long as I have, you owe it to a whole lot of people and to the whole music community to give back,” Zonjic said.

Zonjic, who is a 15-time Detroit Music Awards winner, added that he enjoys playing in Flint. This performance is the third time he has partnered with Mott Community College. He called the Capitol Theatre a “stunning venue.”

Tickets range from $15 to $30 and can be purchased at the Flint Institute of Music website or by calling 810-237-7333.

“We are thrilled to bring Mr. Zonjic back to Flint for a third time,” said Dr. Townes Osborn Miller, Professor of Music at MCC. “He has been an outstanding supporter of our Music program, generously performing concerts locally that help our students achieve their dreams of having a professional music career.”
