Car crashes into gas pump after car chase, causes fire, Florence police say


FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — A car crashed into a gas pump Wednesday night and caused a fire after a brief police chase, according to Capt. Stephen Starling with the Florence Police Department.

Police got a report of a stolen vehicle and noticed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle in the area of Evans Street and Franklin Street, police said.

Police attempted to pull the car over and the car did not stop. After a short pursuit, the vehicle collided with a gas pump on Evans Street and Franklin Street causing a fire, according to police.

Florence County Emergency Management announced that Evans and Edisto Drive, Calhoun Drive and Evans Street, and King Avenue and Franklin Drive were closed as a result of the crash, and the intersections have since reopened.

Police said no one was hurt in the crash and the suspect’s name is unavailable at this time.

The Florence Fire Department extinguished the fire and more details will be released as they become available.
