The arts calendar for Bainbridge Island is packed once again.
Favorites like the Bainbridge Studio Tour, the Asian Arts and Heritage Festival are returning later in the year, but here’s a list of events coming up this winter.
1. Winter One-Act Plays by the Theater Club at Bainbridge High School
The second of three annual productions by the BHS theater club, the Winter One-Acts are a series of mini-plays that are written, cast, acted, directed and produced entirely by theater students. Brief variety acts will perform in-between scenes. The two-hour event is the club’s largest fundraiser of the year, which helps pay for the rights to plays and musicals, cost of set materials and construction, costumes and props. Tickets are $10, and the performances begin Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. The show closes Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.
2. Collector’s Sale and Show at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts Gallery
After nearly closing at the end of last year, the 76-year-old nonprofit art gallery and event space is bringing out the hits. Until Feb. 2, the gallery is hosting a free showing of collectible pieces by artists featured by the organization over the years. 100% of art sales will go to the nonprofit’s fundraising efforts. The gallery, which has free admission, is open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Jan. 31 and Feb. 2.
3. Catch up with history and renowned architect Johnpaul Jones at the Bainbridge History Museum
The museum’s annual meeting recounts its events from the past year and its plans for the upcoming one, and includes a local speaker to discuss historical preservation on BI. This year, that speaker is Johnpaul Jones, an indigenous architect famous for his immersive zoo exhibits and work on the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian. Jones also designed the BI Japanese American Exclusion Memorial and a number of heritage and cultural centers around the West Coast and Alaska. Admission is free and will take place Feb. 8. from 1-3 p.m.
4. “Happily Ever After” at BARN (21+)
The Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network is hosting an evening of readings from the region’s most successful romance writers, including Susan Wiggs, Serena Bell, Julie Farley, Darcy McGuire, Kaitlin Schmidt and Kim Lorraine, Feb. 15 from 7-9 p.m. The event celebrates love and romance and also includes chocolate and wine. Tickets are $35.
