LEWISTON, Maine (TND) — Celebrities across the nation are reacting to the mass shooting in Maine.
But it literally hits home for at least a few of them.
While some are posting about the shooting on social media, others have cancelled shows in response to the massacre.
Patrick Dempsey, who starred in “Grey’s Anatomy” and the 1987 movie “Can’t Buy Me Love,” urged people to pray for everyone impacted. He took to Instagram on Thursday, just one day after a gunman opened fire and killed 18 people and injured 13 others in Lewiston.
I am shocked, and deeply saddened by last night’s tragedy in my hometown, Lewiston, Maine,” he wrote in a post. “Maine’s great strength is it’s sense of community, and now we are being asked to come together to support everyone that has been devastated by this senseless act. May family and I are heartbroken for the victims their families, and the community.”
Author Stephen King also posted about the shooting. The novelist is from Portland.
The shootings occurred less than 50 miles from where I live. I went to high school in Lisbon,” King wrote in one post.
“It’s the guns AND the culture,” he added in another post.
Comedians Pete Davidson and John Mulaney postponed two dates for their upcoming shows in Maine. They were scheduled to perform in Portland on Saturday and Bangor on Sunday.
Robert Card, who is the 40-year-old suspect in the shooting, has been on the loose since Wednesday night.
