Taylor Swift was the talk of the entertainment world on Friday after she announced her purchase of the original recordings of her first six albums: “Taylor Swift,” “Speak Now,” “Fearless,” “Red,” “1989” and “Reputation.”
According to a report by Billboard, Swift paid around $360 million for the master recordings of the albums, which she didn’t own after they were sold to music executive Scooter Braun.

Swift’s former label, Big Machine Records, owned the rights to the aforementioned albums. However, Braun acquired them after his company, Ithaca Holdings, bought her former label.
Shamrock Capital eventually got the rights to Swift’s albums and has now sold them to her. The amount Swift paid is reportedly close to what the private equity firm paid for the master recordings.

“I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me,” Swift wrote in her letter announcing the news, adding that she has been “”bursting into tears of joy” because of it.
“To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it. All I’ve ever wanted was the opportunity to work hard enough to be able to one day purchase my music outright with no strings attached, no partnership, with full autonomy.”
