KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Celebrities are set to meet at the links in Kansas City to tee off for a golf classic set to raise funds for research into an always fatal disease.
The ALS Association has announced that on June 3, celebrities such as George Brett, former Royals third baseman, and Tom Watson, retired golf champion, will once again take to the links to raise funds for the organization at the Joe McGuff ALS Golf Classic.
Organization officials said the tournament is set to tee off at Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate on Monday, June 3. The 2024 installment will mark the event’s 41st anniversary.
The Association noted that the classic began in 1983 when former Royals player and Baseball Hall of Famer George Brett instituted the George Brett Celebrity Golf Classic. The premier tournament was renamed in honor of KC sportswriter Joe McGuff in 2003. All funds raised at the tournament go to support ALS research and care services.
To honor Brett’s original effort, leaders indicated that celebrity participation is once again the classic’s focus. Each foursome will enjoy lunch on the course, and golf with a celebrity or Midwest PGA pro as the fifth player. An award ceremony is set to close out the event.
This year’s celebrity players have yet to be released.
