DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts will host a special screening of the documentary film “Rohna Classified” at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6. This event commemorates D-Day by bringing to light the long-hidden story of the HMT Rohna.
The “Rohna Classified” documentary reveals the tragic fate of a WWII transport ship that was sunk by one of the first radio-guided missiles used in war. The Rohna was equipped with non-functioning lifeboats and inadequate lifebelts, contributing to the loss of over 1,000 U.S. soldiers — the greatest loss of life at sea in U.S. war history. Classified documents uncovered in recent years show that neglect and oversight played a significant role in the high casualty count. The government subsequently classified the disaster indefinitely and ordered survivors to remain silent, leaving casualty families in the dark for decades.
“Rohna Classified” aims to tell the truth about this forgotten tragedy, addressing whether there was a cover-up or if the event was simply “conveniently forgotten.” The film explores the historical context of the attack, the experiences of the soldiers aboard the Rohna, and the devastating impact on the families who never received clear answers about what happened to their loved ones.
The screening will include a post-film discussion, providing an opportunity for attendees to learn more about this crucial piece of WWII history and honor the memory of those lost. Admission is by donation with all proceeds going to the Rohna Classified Outreach Campaign to help spread the word about the documentary and The Rohna.
