Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 01/15/2024

A new week brings in a new batch of our Channel Surfing TV picks. Unravel the murder mystery onboard a luxury cruise ship in Death and Other Details. Even those in Hell have a chance at salvation in Hazbin Hotel. Then, a woman must come to terms with her extreme bouts of sleepwalking in The Woman in the Wall.

It’s All in the Details

Imogene Scott thought she was going to have a relaxing vacation on a cruise ship, but an obnoxious passenger soon takes away everyone’s fun. When said passenger turns up murdered, she becomes the prime suspect, however she isn’t the only one with motive. In order to clear her name, she must team up with the one man she despises. Fortunately for her, Rufus Cotesworth is the world’s greatest detective.

Death and Other Details stars Violett Beane and Mandy Patinkin in the lead roles. Lauren Patten, Rahul Kohli, Angela Zhou, Hugo Diego Garcia, Pardis Saremi, and Linda Emond costar. The series is written and executive produced by Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams, who also serve as co-showrunners.

Death and Other Details premieres Tuesday, January 16, on Hulu.

A Chance at Salvation

In Hazbin Hotel, Hell has an overpopulation problem. In order to maintain reasonable levels of demons, the angels above impose an annual extermination. Mostly everyone doesn’t bat an eye because if you end up in Hell, you probably did something wrong.

However, Charlie Morningstar has other ideas. The princess of Hell opens up her own hotel where she hopes to rehabilitate her patrons so they can check out and earn a spot into heaven. Though initially mocked, Charlie begins to make some progress and maybe her crazy idea isn’t just a dream after all.

The two-episode series premiere of Hazbin Hotel is Friday, January 19, on Prime Video.

Murder and a Missing Child

Lorna Brady has lived a traumatic life. When she was 15, she was incarcerated in one of Ireland’s infamous Magdalene Laundries. While there, she gave birth to a young daughter who was taken away and never heard from again.

Fast forward to The Woman in the Wall’s present where Brady awakens one morning and discovers a corpse in her house. All the trauma she’s suffered has caused severe bouts of sleepwalking so she may have killed the stranger in her home. While a local detective searches for a murderer and she looks for her missing daughter, their paths will cross in ways neither could have predicted.

The Woman in the Wall is available to stream Friday, January 19, on Paramount+ with Showtime. It premieres linearly Sunday, January 21, on Showtime.
