Spend that time between Christmas and the New Year with our Channel Surfing TV picks. A new Doctor sets out on their first full adventure in Doctor Who Christmas Special: “The Church of Ruby Road.” Letterkenny’s twelfth and final season arrives. Then, Money Heist receives a spinoff with Berlin.
The Christmas Present
Ncuti Gatwa first portrayed the Fifteenth Doctor in the 60th anniversary special episode “The Giggle.” Now he is ready to take on the role full time beginning with this year’s holiday special.
In Doctor Who Christmas Special: “The Church of Ruby Road,” we meet the new companion Ruby Sunday. When she was a baby, she was left alone in the snow. Fast forward to today and she crosses paths with the Doctor and sets out on an adventure involving stolen babies, goblins, and her origin story.
Doctor Who Christmas Special: “The Church of Ruby Road” premieres today, December 25, on Disney+.
Saying Goodbye
Letterkenny has had a good run lasting longer than 11 seasons along with five holiday specials and a spinoff. Now the petty feuds and conflicts between the Hicks, the Skids, and the hockey players in the fictional titular location are coming to an end.
We can expect more subversions of the small-town resident tropes in season 12, and hope our protagonists can become unstuck from their mundane lives. It looks like the local bar will have a comedy night and Wayne will have one more opportunity to show us why he is the toughest guy in Letterkenny.
Stream the entire twelfth season of Letterkenny beginning Tuesday, December 26, on Hulu.
The Makings of a Master Thief
We first met Berlin in Money Heist. He served as the Professor’s second in command and helped execute the plan to rob the Royal Mint of Spain. In his new series, we’ll dive even deeper into the character as we catch up with him during an earlier time.
The job this time around is to make $44 million worth of jewels disappear in Paris. Helping him are his skilled team including cybersecurity expert Keila, the brilliant academic Damián, the loose cannon Cameron, and the talented locksmith Roi.
The entire first season of Berlin drops Friday, December 29, on Netflix.
