Charmed House Interiors: A three-floor treasure hunt l Retail Star

After four moves in 10 years, Charmed House Interiors has settled into its 35,000-square-foot three-story retail space in Kansas City, offering a mix of furniture, home décor, gifts and vintage items.

The store’s first floor houses the checkout; smaller pieces ranging from tabletop to sculpture to seasonal décor; a scratch-and-dent sales room; and a café, added in December, serving coffee and pastries. The second level is split between local vendors offering vintage and handcrafted pieces and a section for Charmed House’s custom orders, higher-end furnishings and case goods. Upholstery takes up the third floor.

On Mondays and Tuesdays, when the store is closed, Baechle and some of her 20-person staff take on the heady task of remerchandising. “We’ll pick a floor or two and it gets a makeover every week,” she said. “We try to make the displays as interesting as we can with a range of products,” said owner Jenna Baechle, making sure décor vignettes include a lamp, a mirror and pictures. We try to have something for everybody, whether it’s a $2 item or a $4,000 hutch.”

“Until you visit us, you don’t understand what it is,” she said of her store. “Customers are just mesmerized by the amount of product — it’s unique in Kansas City.”
