Cher has reignited her long-standing feud with Madonna after the Material Girl used an old clip of Cher during her Celebration tour. In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Cher didn’t hold back when asked about Madonna’s use of the clip, which featured Cher calling the Queen of Pop “mean” and using a derogatory term. “I said a lot worse than that,” Cher quipped, referencing the c-word.
Despite her comments, Cher clarified that it’s not a beef and that she actually likes Madonna, but she believes that the pop icon can be mean. “There’s something about her that I don’t like. She’s mean. I don’t like that,” Cher said. “I remember having her over to my house a couple of times, because Sean Penn and I were friends, and she just was so rude to everybody. It seems to me that she’s got so much that she doesn’t have to act that way.”
Cher’s views on Madonna haven’t changed since her 1991 interview, in which she called Madonna the c-word and described her as a spoiled brat. “She acts like a spoiled brat all the time. And it seems to me when you reach the kind of acclaim that she’s reached — and you can do whatever you want to do — you should be a little bit more magnanimous, and a little bit less of a c—,” Cher stated.
Their feud is decades-long
Despite their feud, Cher acknowledges Madonna’s talent and her ability to know the trends before anyone else. “I give her this: There’s no one like her that had their ear to the ground and knew everything before anybody else. I mean, she knew what was coming, and she was right on it. I always felt that was her greatest gift — that she could know the trends before any of us,” Cher said.
While the two music icons may not see eye-to-eye, Cher believes they’ve buried the hatchet. “We buried that hatchet a long time ago because I called her something so much worse, and she forgave me,” Cher revealed.
In Hollywood, there are always rumors about feuds between celebrities, and Cher and Madonna’s feud is one of the most well-known. While they may not be best friends, Cher’s recent comments show that she has moved on from their past issues and is willing to give credit where credit is due.
