Children, 11-14, rearrested for attempted burglary days after stolen car arrest

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two months after FOX13 aired video showing four children riding through Memphis streets in a stolen car, the same group has been rearrested, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

The children, ages 11, 12, 13 and 14, were first arrested after a hidden camera captured the group taking a joyride in a stolen 2018 Kia Soul on April 7. A speedometer in the car showed the kids were going at least 80 mph in a 45 mile-an-hour zone. Those children were arrested on May 15, MPD said.

Just three days later on May 18, MPD said the same group of children attempted to use a large rock to break into Cloud 9 Vape on Sycamore View Road. They were rearrested, police said, and charged with attempted burglary, vandalism over $1,000 and five charges of theft of a motor vehicle related to five stolen vehicles.

The 11-year-old boy has been charged with attempted burglary, theft of motor vehicle between $10,000 and $60,000, three counts of theft of motor vehicle between $2,500 and $10,000 and vandalism over $1,000. The 12-year-old boy was charged with three counts of theft of a motor vehicle between $2,500 and $10,000 and attempted burglary of a business. The 13-year-old was charged with the same charges as the 11-year-old along with a juvenile warrant and the 14-year-old faces identical charges as the 12-year-old.
