Christkindl Markt comes to downtown Grand Rapids

For the first time, the Downtown Market is the host of Christkindl Markt.

The European-style Christmas market is comprised of numerous unique shopping, food experiences, authentic entertainment, and children’s activities.

Children’s activities include letters to Santa and holiday crafts, and marshmallow roasting, according to event organizers.

The adults will find a variety of small pop-up style shops that featured European crafts, winterwear accessories, jewelry, food, entertainment, and a beverage hall serving beer, Glühwein, cider, and hot chocolate.

“Traditional Christmas markets are holiday gathering places and destinations where we as a community can gather amongst the backdrop of music, traditional food, and holiday shopping from local and regional artisans,” said Mimi Fritz, President and CEO of the Grand Rapids Downtown Market. “We honor the long-standing traditions of the Christkindl Markt, experienced by millions of people across hundreds of towns and villages in Europe, by selecting the finest local and regional artisans and vendors to highlight their interpretation of a German Christmas market.”

The market is open Wednesday to Sunday until Dec. 23.

Hours are as follows:

  • Wednesday/Thursday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
