Christopher Nolan’s historical drama/thriller Oppenheimer has sold more than $900 million worth of tickets around the world.
The R-rated historical thriller made an extra $12.8 million over the weekend, with $2.1 million from sales in the United States and $10.7 million from sales in other countries.
After nine weeks in theaters, Oppenheimer has made an amazing $910 million. Of that amount, $318 million came from North American theaters and $594 million came from other countries.
A top ComScore analyst named Paul Dergarabedian says, “For Oppenheimer to cross the $900 million global mark after just nine weeks in theatres is a remarkable achievement. It shows how an amazing film with a superstar director and a star-studded cast can turn a three-hour historical epic into a blockbuster mainstream hit.”
Behind Barbie ($1.41 billion) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.36 billion), Oppenheimer, which stars Cillian Murphy as the alleged “father of the atomic bomb,” continues to beat predictions.
At this rate, it’s not impossible to meet the $1 billion goal, but Oppenheimer would have to stay in theaters for a few more weeks.
