Cillian Murphy Rules Out Peaky Blinders’ Comeback in Favor of ‘New Projects’

Cillian Murphy is not planning a comeback to his Peaky Blinders character anytime soon.

The Oscar-nominated actor has denied reports that he may reprise his role as Thomas Shelby when the show’s last season airs in 2022.

During a press conference following his BAFTA triumph earlier this month, Murphy responded firmly to a query about his return to the crime thriller series.

He said, “No. I’m concentrating on my new project.”

The Irish actor has several projects in the works, including a film adaptation of Small Things Like These, based on Claire Keegan’s 2021 novel of the same name.

The film is set in an Irish Magdalene Laundry managed by Roman Catholic orders from the 18th to the late twentieth centuries.

Cillian plays Bill Furlong, a hardworking father of six who is confronted with the brutal truth of the Catholic Church’s treatment of young unmarried women in his hometown of New Ross, County Wexford.

The actor has had a phenomenal year in terms of popularity, success, and honors thanks to his role as the titular physicist in Oppenheimer, which will be published in July 2023.

He is currently vying for an Oscar as Best Leading Actor for his performance in the movie.
