Cincinnati police searching for shooter after deadly gunfire, car crash in Riverside


Gunfire rang out Wednesday close to homes and Riverside Academy, a charter school for kids in grades K through 8.”I was laying in bed watching the news, and I heard, ‘Pow, pow, pow, pow.’ And I knew it was gunshot. And I knew it was close to my home,” Lisa Sanker said. “I jumped up, ran out. And that’s– I seen all the traffic was stopped, and then I seen where it had, the car had gone down over the hill.”A tow truck operator pulled a Kia Soul subcompact SUV out of dense, heavy brush around 11 a.m., three hours after police first rushed to the scene in the 3300 block of River Road.Cincinnati police detectives said a 33-year-old woman who was in the Kia died from a gunshot wound at UC Medical Center.Another person is being treated for what are considered life-threatening injuries.A child was also in the vehicle.”There was a child in the car that is uninjured,” Police Chief Teresa Theetge said. “We’re working to get that child with the family members.””I hope whoever did it they catch,” Sanker said.Sanker lives along an alley where it appears the early morning incident began. She’s grateful more people weren’t caught in the spray of bullets.”There’s so much that could have happened. Children walking to school, other parents bringing their kids, and then the people going to work. They could have been injured,” Sanker said. “It’s just getting ridiculous that these people are not even thinking of the children, at least.”Investigators are asking anyone who knows anything about what happened to call the Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit. They think a second car may have been involved, suggesting what happened could have been a drive-by shooting.
