Clearfield County Fair welcomes wealth of entertainment for grandstand’s 100th anniversary

CLEARFIELD — This year is the 100th anniversary of the historic grandstand located in the Clearfield County Fairgrounds — and the grandstand again will have a multitude of entertainment options on its biggest stage during the upcoming fair.

Country music star Warren Zeiders kicks things off with a performance at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12.

Zeiders performed as an opening act a few years ago and he was so popular the fair decided to bring him back again this year, fair Manager Greg Hallstrom said.

Zeiders’ popularity has ballooned since his last appearance at the fair and his tickets are selling briskly this year — and so far, are selling more than the other acts, Hallstrom said.

Ticket sales for all the shows including rock musician Rick Springfield, who is performing at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 19 and country musician Riley Green, who is performing at Saturday, July 20 at 8 p.m., have also doing well in recent weeks, Hallstrom said.

Some shows, such as the truck and tractor pull, which is on Thursday at 6 p.m., usually sell substantially more at the walk up window rather than pre-sales, Hallstrom said.

KOI Drag Racing returns to the fair on Saturday, July 13 at 6 p.m. Hallstrom said the show was popular at last year’s fair so they decided to bring it back again this year; however, it will start a little later in the evening to give more people the opportunity to attend.

On Sunday, July 14, the grandstand will host the first day of harness racing and the Fair Queen contest. Harness racing is included in the price of admission.

Monday, July 15 is the ever-popular Clearfield County Fair Parade, followed by a fireworks show.

Tuesday evening harness racing will again be at the grandstand. The evening session of harness racing has become a popular attraction and it is an excellent opportunity for those new to the sport to watch some races, Hallstrom said.

The Tuesday night races also feature the popular Hat Derby sponsored by the Clearfield Historical Society. The Hat Derby gives attendees the chance to show off their biggest and best headwear and win a few prizes.

“The historical society always does an excellent job with this,” Hallstrom said.

Wednesday, the horses again take center stage with daytime harness racing and in the evening the Horse Pull competition returns after a long hiatus from the fair.
