CLEVELAND, Ohio – Starting to peruse vacation destinations for 2024? You may want to consider a staycation in Cleveland, according to Travel + Leisure magazine, which includes the city on its 50 Best Places to Travel in 2024.
“The year ahead has the Land set to shine, thanks to national and international events, world-class cultural expansions, and the rebirth of historic hotels,” says the long-time travel publication.
The magazine lists Cleveland in its Big City Thrills category, and cites several 2024 events that will bring thousands of visitors to town, including the NCAA Women’s Final Four and the solar eclipse in April, as well as the Pan-American Masters Games in July and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony next fall.
Other reasons to make the trip, according to the magazine: the $150 million expansion at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, upcoming additions to Karamu House and the debut next year of major renovations to Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.
“There’s development along the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie, too, where paved hiking and biking trails are livening up a waterfront that has, for many decades, been underutilized,” the story says.
Cleveland is among nine cities on the list, including Paris, Montreal, Bangkok, Las Vegas and Kansas City. For the complete ranking: travelandleisure.com/best-places-to-go-2024-8385979
Cleveland also recently earned a mention on the Points Guy’s 16 Best Places to Travel in 2024, included on a list of a half-dozen places to view the total solar eclipse on April 8.
The online publication offers a shout-out to events and activities at the Great Lakes Science Center and the Ritz-Carlton, and notes the city’s location on Lake Erie, which could lead to clear conditions along the shoreline and “allow visitors to view the eclipse for nearly four minutes.” For more: thepointsguy.com/guide/best-places-to-travel-2024
David Gilbert, president and CEO of Destination Cleveland, said the recognition from national media underscores what promises to be an exciting year in the region. “All the large-scale events on tap in 2024 and major updates at museums, hotels and cultural institutions give travelers unique reasons to visit The Land, adding to the world-class attractions, neighborhoods and experiences that already make Cleveland a must-visit destination for travelers,” he said.
