Colby College unveils $95 million performing arts center, the largest project in its history

WATERVILLE (WGME) – Colby College is celebrating the opening of their new $95 million performing arts center.

The Gordon Center for creative and performing arts is the largest academic project in the college’s history.

Colby’s performance center is the new home to multiple departments, including cinema studies, theater, and dance.

Inside, the college’s new performance center has a large performance hall, recording rooms and multiple studios.

The new arts center isn’t just a celebration for the school but a celebration for the public as well.

“There are ways where various musical groups and performance processes, we can integrate members of the community who are not Colby students,” said Anne Kloppenberg, associate professor and chair of the performance, theater and dance department. “Faculty, staff, local artists, local community members become involved in many of the things we do in this facility. All of our performances are free and open to the public and we really want this to be a home not just for our community on campus here, but for a much wider community in Waterville and central Maine,” she said.

Colby College says the new performance center is the most advanced and innovative performing arts facility in northern New England.
