Coldplay Perform ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)’ by Backstreet Boys in Gothenburg

Coldplay surprised fans during a stop on their Music of the Spheres tour in Gothenburg by playing a stripped-down version of the Backstreet Boys’ 1997 hit “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

A video of the show shows that Chris Martin led the crowd in singing the catchy hook.

The cover was played near the end of Coldplay’s 25-song set, and both the crowd and the Backstreet Boys were very happy with it.

The boyband posted about how happy they were on Instagram, calling Coldplay’s tribute an honor and posting a video of Martin singing the song.

Coldplay paid another tribute to Elton John the night before at Gamla Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg. After five years of performing, Elton John completed his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road shows were a significant part of this tour. The artists in different parts of Sweden talked to each other via live video, which was shown at each of their shows on July 8. During “Rocket Man,” Coldplay’s song, Chris Martin called out to John.
