Makayla Miller hit two free throws with three seconds to play, lifting the La Salle women’s basketball team to a 63-61 win over UMass Wednesday night. The Explorers (7-13) had trailed 47-40 at the end of the third quarter.
Jolene Armendariz scored a team-high 16 points for La Salle. Miller recorded her eighth straight double-digit scoring performance with 14 points. Tiara Bolden chipped in 10 points and Molly Masciantonio (Archbishop Carroll) had four assists and two steals.
Widener 58, Eastern 41 >> Jordan D’Ambrosio continued her torrid stretch with 24 points to help the Pride (16-4) to their third straight victory. The Springfield product registered six steals for the second time in as many games.
Widener kept the host Eagles (7-12) to single-digit points in each of the first three quarters. Mia Robbins contributed 11 points, six rebounds and two steals in the victory.
Miranda Liebtag finished with team highs in points (six) and blocks (three) for Eastern. Wynter Bess (Archbishop Carroll) pitched in six points and seven boards.
Saint Joseph’s 68, Loyola Chicago 42 >> Four players reached double figures in scoring as the Hawks (20-2) rolled to their sixth straight win. Leading the way was Talya Brugler with 19 points.
Laura Ziegler (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Mackenzie Smith (12 points, 10 rebounds) each posted double-doubles for SJU. Chloe Welch added 13 points.
Temple 66, Wichita State 65 >> Tiarra East drilled the game-winning 3-point basket as time expired in regulation. East tallied a team-high 15 points for the Owls (12-9).
Aleah Nelson paired 13 points with five assists.
UConn 81, Vilanova 60 >> The Wildcats (13-8) were no match for the 11th-ranked Huskies (18-4) in this Big East showdown.
Aaliyah Edwards and Paige Bueckers led the way for the winners with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Lucy Olsen netted a team-high 15 points for ‘Nova. Zanai Jones had 14 points and Maddie Webber tossed in 11.
Swarthmore 57, Muhlenberg 37 >> Norah Wingfield paced the Garnet (9-10) with 17 points and six rebounds. Neve Yair added nine points, five assists and a pair of steals. Alyssa Hayashi amassed eight points, four assists and three steals.
Washington (Md.) 63, Haverford 45 >> Siena Emuobor accrued 11 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, but the visiting Fords committed 22 turnovers and were outscored 35-22 in the second half en route to their fifth consecutive loss. Aidrey Jakway and Shae Mercer each provided 10 points.
Men’s
TJ Lewis produced 20 points and seven rebounds in Neumann’s 70-54 win over Cabrini.
Jalen Vaughns finished with 18 points and 16 rebounds for the visiting Knights (7-14). Amari Little and Zaiyin Keys added 10 points apiece.
Eric Neal scored 19 points and Donoven Mack 15 for the Cavaliers (7-14).
