Two Quad-Cities nonprofits are working together to address food insecurity.
River Bend Food Bank and Quad-Cities arts organization Common Chord are collaborating to fundraise and collect food bank contributions. The fundraiser will start on Monday, and run until Dec. 21.
Common Chord has connected with local musicians to provide covers of classic holiday songs, along with original pieces. Each day brings a new song, as a way to encourage people to donate to the food bank.
“We are so grateful to Common Chord for partnering with us,” said Mike Mathews, River Bend Food Bank director of marketing and communications, in a press release. “This presents a great opportunity to not only raise much needed funds for River Bend Food Bank, but also support Common Chord’s mission of improving our community through music.”

River Bend distributes millions of meals each year to those in need, the release said, including school food pantries, senior residencies and other community organizations.
Common Chord, formerly known as the River Music Experience, seeks to increase local music education access, provides instrument rentals and hosts concerts at their famous downtown venue, The Redstone Room.
Tyson Danner, executive director, said in a release that he believes in the power of music to uplift a community.
““By sharing the work of our talented local musicians, we hope to draw more attention to the issue of food insecurity which affects our whole community,” he said in the release.
