∫ Besser Senior Living welcomes trick-or-treaters from 5 to 7 p.m. on Halloween.

∫ The Alpena Pumpkin House will be ready for visitors on Halloween night only, from 5 p.m. to midnight, at 1321 Ferncliff Drive, with over 100 meticulously carved pumpkins lit up and on display. There will be signs up to help direct traffic to this incredible, free family-friendly visual treat! Family and friends have hand-carved pumpkins for five days straight to prepare for this annual event. The display will be up long after trick-or-treating, so head on over after your bags are full of candy and feast your eyes on this Halloween delight!

∫ St. Paul Lutheran Church at 6891 Nicholson Hill Road, Hubbard Lake, will host a trunk-or-treat event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Halloween.

∫ In Alpena, Harrisville and Lincoln, trick-or-treating begins at 5:30 p.m. and concludes at 7:30 p.m. The kids will be going door-to-door in Rogers City from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Onaway and Hillman will allow children to trick-or-treat from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

∫ Cub Scouts meet from 6 to 7 p.m., and Boy Scouts meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 727 S. 2nd Ave., Alpena.

∫ Bay View Center hosts a diversity support meeting at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday. This weekly potluck is for those in the LGBTQ community, their families, and supporters, at Bay View Center, 710 N. 2nd Ave. If you have questions, call 989-340-0955.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 1

∫ ALL presents What Do I Do Now? This 10 a.m. program will be held at M. Briggs Center. What do I do when I (or a loved one) need help with everyday activities? Can I get help at my house? Do I need a nursing home? What is the difference between assisted living and adult foster care? And who pays for all this? These are the questions Bethany deals with every day as she helps patients and their families plan for ongoing care. Bethany Campbell is currently the discharge planner for the MyMichigan Medical Center Inpatient Rehab Department. She started at MyMichigan in 1996, and worked various units including OB, ER, cardiac and medical/surgery departments.

∫ Guys Like Us is a Wednesday morning coffee crew of men who are coping with cancer, meeting at 10 a.m., in-person at Friends Together and via Zoom. Call Friends Together at 989-356-3231 for the link.

∫ Free family history classes are offered this fall at the Family Search Center inside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 411 Long Rapids Plaza. Classes are from noon to 2 p.m. each week on Wednesday with a repeat of that same lesson on Saturday. ∫ On Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m., join Julie Byrnes and ALL for pinochle at M. Briggs Center.

∫ Join the Alpena County Library for the fall session of Sewing Club, meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. This club is open to all skill levels, ages 10 and up. Bring your sewing machine, supplies, and project to work on. We will supply the space and guidance. For those without a sewing machine, there are three machines on site for use. ∫ ALL offers a Second Square Dancing Class from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at M. Briggs Center. Come work on your square dance calls. This is an ad hoc event for the purpose of improving your Mainstream and Plus calls. There will be no caller, but experienced dancers will be there to help and fill in a square or half square. The intent is to repeat calls, so the muscle memory is there when you attend a dance.

∫ Women on Wednesday is a support group for women with cancer meeting in-person and via Zoom at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at Friends Together. Come for a dash of hope, some laughter, and real talk.

∫ A new meeting of Overeaters Anonymous, a 12 step program of recovery for those with compulsive eating behaviors, began Oct. 18. The group meets at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday at 3100 Piper Rd. Alpena, in the back room. For more information, contact Diane R. at 989-821-9601.

∫ ALL hosts contract bridge from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Fridays at M. Briggs Center. This is an ongoing group of card players who welcome any players at any time. This group is a teaching class but experienced players are also welcome.

∫ The Hillman VFW Post 2356 hosts its Friday Night Fish Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. every Friday night, with your choice of fish or shrimp, potato, coleslaw, roll, and drink. The fish fry is open to the public, and the cost is $12 per person for the fish dinner or $14 per person for the shrimp dinner.

Hospice of Michigan’s signature fundraising event features hand-crafted cocktails from Michigan’s finest distilleries, mouthwatering barbeque from local pitmasters and restaurants and live music, all for a good cause. ∫ Feeding Kids Ministry will host a spaghetti dinner and silent auction fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at 500 S. Brooke St., Alpena. This in-person event promises a delightful evening filled with mouthwatering pasta, tangy sauce, coleslaw and delectable homemade desserts. There will be a 50/50 drawing, raffle for a handmade queen size quilt, and amazing auction items brought to you by local businesses and friends of FKM.
