The Chester Junior-Senior High School Visual and Performing Arts Department and Career Technical Education Department are working together to host their inaugural Blossoming Talent and Art Show on May 16. The show will be held in the Chester Elementary School auditorium and surrounding hallways, with entry through the front of the school only.
The community is welcome to attend and participate, say organizers. Chester High students and elementary age students attend for free. Community members will be charged $5 admission. Participation in the show is open to students, staff and community members. Acts should last two to five minutes and be family friendly and appropriate for small children. Student art will be on display, with some offered for sale.
Proceeds from the art sale and admission will go to help fund the Oregon Shakespeare Festival experience for this and next year. Currently this program is funded by the Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant, but that grant does not cover food costs and its extension to next year is not guaranteed, say organizers.
There will be a social hour from 5 to 6 p.m. including free snacks and refreshments. Organizers encourage participants to peruse the art on display during this time. At 6:15 p.m. the talent show will begin. There will be two nonentry performances by the drama class and club and the Chester High concert band. All other entries will be eligible to win flower-themed ribbons based on categories of performance.

“Depending on response, perhaps cash prizes could be offered in future years,” say organizers. “For now we want to gauge community response. Please come out and see our talented artists, dancers, singers, instrumentalists and any other type of talent which reveals itself in the weeks to come!”
