Community steps up to help family after car crashes into their house

MILFORD, CT (WFSB) – Neighbors in Milford say they live on one of the most dangerous roads in the city.

A car crashed into a home this weekend, knocking it a foot off its foundation.

“They always go up hill and bounce off the guard rail,” said Kelly Ruff, of Milford.

Neighbors said Pond Point Avenue is notorious for car crashes.

“The ones going downhill started in the last five years,” said Kelly.

The most recent happened Saturday night. A car smashed into the corner of a home.

The driver went to the hospital.

The four people in the home are ok, but the city is ruling the house unfit to live.

The Clarizio family is now in a hotel and aren’t allowed back in to grab their belongings.

There are still two hub caps laying outside, and tire marks on a neighbor’s lawn.

Ruff has lived on the road her whole life, but she’s fed up.

“I just think no one pays attention and that drivers ed needs to happen,” said Katie Ruff.

While Milford police investigate, the community is banding together to help the Clarizio family. They have no home, no clothes, or no food.

John Krusinski is stepping up. He put a box outside his parents’ house and posted on Facebook asking for donations to the Clarizio family.

In just a few hours the box was full.

“I came here on my lunch break to empty it out. This is just from today none of this was here last night so It’s pretty amazing,” said Krusinski.

Katie’s mom Kelly runs a daycare on the same street as the damaged house.

“They’re in a hotel right now so we were going to go through some toys board games. Give to them. My kids clothing. Things like that. It’s getting cold so they’re going to need hats and gloves,” said Kelly.

Police have not said who was driving and what led up to the crash. Eyewitness News asked officers for crash data in the area but has not heard back.
