Cooking Guide – Monster Hunter Wilds Guide

Cooking has been an integral part of Monster Hunter, with food and meals being a way to make the player stronger and more durable for the hunts to come. However, in Wilds, it’s been tweaked a little bit. We’ll let you know how to cook and where to get your ingredients for cooking as well.

How to Cook

Cooking will be unlocked after Mission 1-2: Village of Whispering Winds, or more accurately, after rescuing the support team. Once you’ve rescued the support team, you can get access to the Portable BBQ Grill as well as cooking.

Unlike traditional cooking, cooking in Wilds is done entirely through the Portable BBQ Grill or from your tent. No longer do you have access to a canteen to cook, so don’t go looking for one (I know I did for way too long).

Cooking itself is quite simple. All you’ll need is a Ration to get started. You get Rations freely from the Ingredients Center in Base Camp as well as from your supplies throughout missions, so you should never be running out or low on Rations, given how long a single Ration can last you.

Cooking a single Ration without any additional ingredients or finishing touches will be all you need to get your +50 Health and +150 Stamina, along with any other bonuses your chosen base ingredient gets you. The default length of a meal is 30 minutes, but can be extended to 50 minutes with extra ingredients.

Cooking Ingredients and Finishing Touches Guide

The additional ingredients and finishing touches will be your real meat and potatoes of cooking. The base ration is a great way to get started and conserve your ingredients if you find yourself running low, but a strong mixture can make or break a hunt.

Each additional ingredient is linked to one region and can be obtained through Item Trades with villagers. Finishing Touches are also acquired through Item Trades but aren’t linked to a specific region in any way. Additional ingredients and Finishing Touches will also add additional skills to your meals, based on the ingredient chosen. The strength of this skill will be based on the quality of the ingredient.

Additionally, cooking a full meal will also yield two more, additional meal skills at random. Finishing Touches also grant an additional +5 Elemental Resist to any meal.
