Once it’s full, return to your fire and press E. This will place the pot on top of the fire and get to work on boiling the water. If you want to take the boiling water, you can do so by simply pressing E. However, if you want to get into more advanced cooking and see what recipes are available to you, hold down E. The cog icon will appear and you’ll be able to hover over it to see all the potential recipes you can make.

Full 1.0 Release Changes to Cooking
The changes that were introduced to the game as part of the full 1.0 release of Sons of the Forest also brought in some adjustments to cooking. When you first fill up your cooking pot with water, you’ll have the option to drink directly from it or dump it out.
We don’t recommend drinking directly from your cooking pot if you’ve filled it up straight from the rivers and lakes, because the 1.0 release has added a new way to test your survival skills by introducing a new method of getting sick. When you drink unclean water you’ll see a greenish-yellow tinge applied to your health bar, which limits your HP. So, stick to boiling your water thoroughly, first!
When it comes to the actual cooking, you won’t be able to add any rotten items to the recipes. Rotten food also makes you sick and affects your HP with the new update, but thankfully, it’s a lot easier to identify when meat and fish have gone off straight from your inventory.
