More than 150 artisans and craft artists will take part in annual Downtown Dunedin Craft Festival
DUNEDIN — The 30th annual Downtown Dunedin Craft Festival will return to Main Street, running Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18-19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Dunedin.
Admission is free. Visit www.artfestival.com.
Benefitting the Dunedin Main Street program, the event celebrates three decades of the best handmade, original works of art and fine craftmanship this month. The free, outdoor art and craft walk features a variety of hand-crafted treasures, including home décor, original art, pet accessories, wearable art, jewelry, paintings and more. These unique creations will be on display, pop-up-gallery style, during festival hours.
The event will feature more than 150 artisans and craft artists. The show is pet-friendly for animals on leashes and includes a full green market of live plants, tasty treats and creative host/hostess delights. Visitors can get a jump start on holiday shopping, with plenty of opportunities to discover one-of-a-kind and customized items perfect for anyone on their shopping lists.
All artists are on-site throughout the weekend, allowing patrons to discover the inspiration behind the work of art, commission a custom piece, and even learn more about the process that goes into each creation.
Among the participants at this year’s festival is Dunedin craft artist Victoria Behm.
Behm creates original home décor using resin poured on wood with a thick laquear finish. Under her Resin Reflections brand, she designs her own line of host/hostess items such as charcuterie boards, cocktail glasses, trays, cutting boards, trivets and more. She has spent years as an artist working with watercolors and pencils, and enjoys creating new designs with her functional art.
Dunedin’s own Heather Revezzo returns to Main Street for the event. The fused-glass artist creates functional and decorative fused glass art, in the form of dishes, plates, bowls, window displays, and wall hangings.
“All of my creations are 100% hand-made, cut, ground, polished, kiln-fired, and fused in my home glass studio,” Revezzo said in her artist’s statement. “I have been working with glass for about 20 years, and am constantly learning and discovering new techniques, color combinations, and designs. I love colors, and especially love that glass allows me to experiment with different color combinations and visual textures.”
David Edmund was born and raised in Brazil to an American mother and Austrian father. He began painting in his early teens and studied first with private tutors and later at the Center for Visual Arts of Rio de Janeiro. He spends his time between his house and studio in Tampa, and the coastal village of Buzios, near Rio. His art has been sold and collected internationally in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Brazil.
Dunedin artist Mark Eliason has been pursuing the expression of creativity through his art since 2017.
“In the past few years, I have found myself experimenting with various styles and mediums,” Eliason said in his artist’s statement. “My 2017 self-artistic renaissance started out with hyper-realistic graphite on paper drawings, oil and acrylic paintings, and eventually progressed into mixed media and collage. My most recent work has been concentrated mainly on a series of pop surrealistic collages.”
According to the artist, these collages take anywhere from 120 to 175 hours to complete.
“They are painstakingly made from thousands of small, recycled magazine images, that are glued to a plywood substrate,” he said. “The magazine scraps are basically (pigments) that I use to tell my visual story.”
Clearwater potters Thoraine Loyd and make original, crystalline glazes on wheel-thrown/hand-built porcelain with carved and slip detail. Each piece is high-fired and functional with real crystals growing in the glaze during the 2,300-degree firing.
