The Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition is offering scholarship award opportunities for high school seniors in Routt and Moffat counties who submit an original piece of written or visual art inspired by the area’s population of Greater Shandhill Cranes.
The CCCC Crane-Inspired Creative Arts Scholarship Contest offers two categories of art: one for a written nonfictional essay or fictional story of 750-1500 words, or a group of three poems — and the second for visual arts work in the form of a painting, sketch, photograph or digital art.
First-place winners in each of the categories will receive a $3,000 scholarship award; second-place finishers will receive $1,500; and honorable mentions will be awarded $1,000 in scholarship money.
The work must be original and accurately reflect the physical characteristics, behavior and habitat of the Rocky Mountain Greater Sandhill Cranes. The deadline for submission is Feb. 16, according to a contest announcement.
