With new makeup trends constantly in and out of fashion, one look that never fails to return each year is the iconic festive glam look. With a metallic shadow blended across the eyelids and a rich burgundy on the lips, it’s a look that is guaranteed to WOW during the festive season.
However, there is no denying that the makeup world moves quickly and with that comes new trends, styles and approaches to such looks.
So, whether you have a dinner party nearing on the calendar or are heading out with the girls this Christmas or New Year, we have created the ultimate guide on how to create the perfect festive glam – with a few of our favourite techniques sprinkled throughout!
Perfecting that base!
Winter means (for many of us) having dry—very dry—skin, which is a disaster for applying makeup. Therefore, it is super important to take some extra time to really look after your skin and stay as hydrated as possible.
As a result, you may want to opt for a glowy finish on this makeup look. Use a base such as a Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter for a stunning glow underneath your foundation and opt for a medium coverage glowy foundation.
You can still set this with some powder, however, be sure to add back in that hydrated finish with a spritz of your favourite setting spray.

BPerfect Chroma Cover Foundation – €22.95
Blonzing
Blush and bronzer are crucial for adding back in a bit of colour to the skin.
Toasted Teddy by Rhode is the most gorgeous blush shade for this time of year. It’s a super muted terracotta shade and it’s perfect for blonzing.
This is a technique in which blusher and bronzer are just one in between product. It gives the skin the most natural pop of colour and prevents the look of a line of bronzer and a line a blush.
Go for Fenty’s Cheeks Out Blush for a more defined blush.
Rhode Pocket Blush Toasted Teddy – €32
Fenty Cheeks Out Big Melons Blush – €20
Eyes to impress!
The eyeshadow is the star of this look. Dust a light amount of your bronzer into the crease of your eye and softly blend it up towards your temple. You can make this as intense as you want by building up the colour with darker shadows (we love Hildun Beauty’s Mythical Romance palette for building).
Urban Decay eyeshadow in the shade Space Cowboy is our newest obsession. It’s a light beige colour with the most insane glitter and shimmer throughout. Pack this onto your lid.
Use a burgundy pencil liner to draw a short, thin line from the end of your eye pointed to the end of your eyebrow and smudge it out with a small brush. This will create a soft wing that will make blue or green eyes pop.
Urban Decay Space Cowboy Moondust Eyeshadow – €22
Hildun Beauty Mythical Romance Eyeshadow Quad – €25
Perfect pout
We are currently obsessed with a darker lip liner blended into a lighter shade in the middle. It creates the most gorgeous ombre effect and it’s super trendy right now.
Penneys’ lipliner in the shade Toast is only 80c and it is stunning! Use a lighter lipstick to blend the edges and cover the rest of the lip.
Top with your favourite gloss (Kiko Hydra Gloss in N31 is everything) and you are all set!
Ps. Toast Lip Liner – 80c
KIKO Milano Hydra Gloss N31 – €9.99
