CSUF tennis opens spring season with two 4-0 sweeps

Kicking off their spring season, Cal State Fullerton women’s tennis team defeated Azusa Pacific and Westcliff University with two sweep victories, 4-0, Saturday at the Titan Courts.

The Titans replicated their prior success against Westcliff, defeating them by the same score they did last season.

CSUF’s doubles team won two of the three doubles games, led by a 6-0 blow out win by pair Kaytlin Taylor and Seha Yu. Following them was Mariia Nikitash and Milena Gevorgyan who were the only doubles team to fall, losing 6-3.  Rounding out the doubles was Natalie Duffy and Sein Myoung who came out on top with a 7-5 win after a lengthy back and forth battle.

Gevorgyan and Yu were able to maintain their recent success in singles, both recording 6-1 and 6-2 wins against their opponents. Natalie Duffy was also successful in singles with two 6-2 wins against Westcliff’s Anna Ruiz Masip.

The Titans started off their day with a 4-0 win against Azusa Pacific, who they also defeated with the same score last year.

The Titans swept their three doubles games. Duffy and Myoung once again dominated their doubles set with a 6-2 win. Taylor and Yu won their match by a score of 6-3. Nikitash and Gevorgyan were able to edge out a win in a tight matchup, winning 5-4.

Nikitash, Gevorgyan, Yu and Taylor were all able to bring in single wins for the team. Nikitash ended her singles set with 6-0 and 6-1 blowouts.

The singles matches for Duffy and Myoung, the Titans’ #1 and #2, were left unfinished.

The Titans will now look ahead to their first away game against Point Loma. The contest is scheduled for Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in San Diego.
