Conservation of the sea is not only an ecological task, but a moral obligation that will ensure a healthy and clean environment for future generations, said the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North, Damjan Ćulafić.
As announced by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North, he visited the marina in Portonova and Lazure Hotel & Marina with his colleagues in order to see the state of nature conservation and environmental protection.
Ćulafić said that the ports and marinas of nautical tourism represent areas with an increased risk for the environment.
That is why, as he said, it is extremely important to establish and strictly observe ecological standards.
“The use of advanced materials and technologies offers the possibility of more efficient models of ecological protection, which is a key step towards the preservation of our seas and coast”, added Ćulafić.
He warned of the dangers posed by ballast water, the possibility of maritime accidents, as well as pollution by oil derivatives and waste water from ships.
“We must protect the sea, which is an integral part of our environment, because it is an indicator of our patriotic feeling. “Investments in marine conservation bring long-term benefits not only to tourists but also to the local population, ensuring a healthy and clean environment for future generations,” said Ćulafić.
Ćulafić emphasized that, although it is estimated that 80 percent of sea pollution comes from land, the remaining 20 percent of sea pollution should not be ignored.
He said that illegal chemical substances, heavy metals, detergents, mineral oils and high concentrations of bacteria must not be present in any marina, beach or Boke Bay.
“Natural resources should be used in a controlled manner, because it is our duty to preserve them. Therefore, sustainability is the measure we need”, said Ćulafić.
He also assessed that the intensive development of tourism, especially nautical tourism, brings significant economic benefits, but also environmental challenges that need to be addressed.
Ćulafić thanked the employees of the marina for their contribution to the preservation of the environment and emphasized the importance of cooperation between state authorities and the private sector in order to achieve the sustainable development of nautical tourism.
