Cultural Arts Day Saturday at Whittier Birthplace

Two dozen artists performing in a variety of mediums will be featured at the Third Annual Cultural Arts Day at Whittier Birthplace.

This year’s free event takes place Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Whittier Birthplace, 305 Whittier Road, Haverhill.

Artists will be spread out along a half-mile section of the Donald C. Freeman Trail behind the historic house. Musical performers include Currier Square, a local rock band; 11 members of the Southern New Hampshire Ukulele Group; and Montana Spark, a Native American flute and percussion group, Painters will be invited to set up their easels as well as exhibit work in a show that will be on display in the barn,

The Black Dog Theatre Company will perform as well the Haverhill River Bards poetry group. Four local organization are setting up tables and will offer activities. They are Haverhill Cultural Treasures, Haverhill Trails Committee, Haverhill Promise and Haverhill Public Library.

Tours of the Whittier Homestead historic house will be offered at 10 and 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.

“This year’s Cultural Arts Day is set to be the biggest yet,” says Executive Director Kaleigh Pare Shaughnessy. “Visitors are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch and blanket to sit and listen to the performers. Dogs on leashes are welcome.”

Parking is available and MeVa Bus 17 also travels to the Birthplace.
