Cumberland County Schools hiring child nutrition positions

Cumberland County Schools is hosting hiring events for its available positions in the child nutrition services department.

The first will be on Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at NC Works Career Center at 490 N. McPherson Church Road. The entrance to NC Works is at the rear of the building.

The county school system is seeking Assistant Managers and Food Service Assistants. The jobs involve food preparation, cleaning of food facilities and other duties involved in delivering meals to the county’s public school students. Both positions offer a starting pay of $15 per hour with benefits, including health insurance and paid leave.

For those unable to attend this week, the next hiring will be on Feb. 20 also from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fayetteville’s NC Works office.

Residents interested in further information on the hiring events can contact the school system’s child nutrition services department office at (910) 678-2502.

The school system also offered training for those interested in becoming assistants in the child nutrition department. As part of Fayetteville Technical Community College’s H.O.P.E. Re-connect program, the Child Nutrition Assistant Program provides training on nutrition, culinary math and basic culinary skills used in the food service industry. Program participants gain a national food safety certification through ServSafe and will participate in a paid, on-the-job training within CCS schools.

Once they complete the program on March 21, participants can choose to interview for a permanent child nutrition services position with CCS.
