Dakota Johnson acknowledged that preparations are underway to bring Crackpot to fruition, recognising the difficulties of negotiating the film industry ecosystem.
She announced her role in the film as a producer and principal actor, with May set to helm.
Casting is currently underway, signalling movement towards the completion of this long-awaited picture.
Crackpot, Elaine May’s highly awaited feature film, which was first announced in November 2019 and stars Dakota Johnson, has returned in recent memory for many.
The film, which marked May’s comeback to directing since Ishtar during Ronald Reagan’s presidency, appeared to sink into obscurity amid the flurry of events that happened in the years that followed.
However, interest in the project was revived when Ben Mekler encouraged interviewers to ask about its status during Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web promotional tour.
Brazilian journalist Thiago Gelli took up the mission and was able to obtain an update from Johnson herself.
With more than four years since the project’s genesis, the thought of moving forward to production with Johnson’s open timetable is seen positively in industry circles.
