David Walliams resolved his case against the producers of Britain’s Got Talent after he was fired for making inappropriate remarks about a participant on the show.
Walliams, who served as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent from 2012 to 2022, resigned down in November of last year. During the recording of an episode of the ITV talent show in 2020, he made disrespectful and sexually explicit statements regarding candidates.
The 52-year-old comedian was suing producer Fremantle for misusing personal information and violating the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
While suing for £10 million, Walliams secured a settlement that was “way under,” according to the Daily Mail.
The settlement was reached after Fremantle acknowledged that their security protocols had failed, allowing Walliams’ comments to be leaked to the Guardian.
Furthermore, insiders said Walliams’ other arguments “failed, which is why he couldn’t settle for a higher sum.” According to sources, the seven-figure sum is roughly £1 million, or a year’s wage for the show.
In a statement, a Fremantle representative stated they are “pleased” to have “achieved an amicable resolution of this dispute” and apologized to Walliams.
“We are sincerely sorry that his private conversations when a judge on Britain’s Got Talent were published, and the great distress this caused David.”
