On the first Saturday of each month, Tehachapi Heritage League features a book by a local author. On Dec. 4, the book will be a reprint of two books written by Judy Barras. “The Formative Years” and “The Long Road to Tehachapi” have been combined into one volume. It is interesting to read and makes the perfect gift for any lover of Tehachapi History.

Barras moved to Tehachapi in 1965 and immediately became interested in the native people and the history of the area. She gathered information from many sources and began writing. Someone else will be representing Barras because, unfortunately, she died several years ago. Her contribution to Tehachapi lives on, and her books are a wonderful resource for those interested in the history of the area.

The Museum, located at 310 S. Green St., is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 4 p.m. More information may be found at tehachapimuseum.org.
