In a jobs report released Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development boasted of total jobs in the state passing 3 million in October and of a labor force participation rate of 68.5%.

The press release notes that education and health services led the way for the most added jobs, gaining 3,200 jobs in the month. The Government and Construction sector saw over 1,000 jobs added.

“The Healthcare and Social Assistance sector and Construction, especially Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction, continue to experience strong job growth,” DEED Labor Market Information Office Director Angelina Nguyễn said in a news release.

In the private sector, the construction sector has seen a growth in jobs, increasing 6,850 jobs since last year, or 4.8%. Nationally, the construction industry has increased only 2.7%.

The release also brags of Minesota’s low unemployment rate, which stands at 3.2% compared to the national unemployment rate of 3.9%.

“There are many opportunities for job seekers right now — as there have been for quite some time in Minnesota,” DEED Deputy Commissioner Kevin McKinnon said in the release. “In October, we saw more good news in jobs growth, while we saw a pause in labor force growth after nearly three quarters of more and more people looking for work and landing jobs.”

Last month when talking about Minnesota increasing its number of construction jobs, DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek said when the construction industry is on the up-and-up it is hopefully indicative of growth in other industries.
