
PORTAGE, Wis. (WMTV) – An 18-year-old Deforest man was arrested after fleeing police and crashing his car Saturday, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Just before noon, a sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a vehicle speeding around 85 mph entering Portage on Highway 16, according to police. The deputy tried to pull over the suspect, who reportedly sped up to 120 mph, continuing south on Interstate 39.
Officials said the pursuing deputy identified the vehicle and driver, but lost sight of the car and ended the pursuit.
Shortly after, authorities said they found the car crashed into a marsh off Cascade Mountain Road along with the driver and a passenger. There were no reports of injuries.
The sheriff’s office said the man fled because he did not have insurance.
Authorities said the driver was arrested and taken to Columbia County Jail on the charge of felony flee and elude and received several citations.
