Before backing President Joe Biden for reelection, Sen. Joe Manchin would like to “see who all the players are.” A week after refusing to identify as a Democrat, the West Virginia Democrat continued to toe the party line on Sunday. On CBS’s Face the Nation, he stated, “My first objective right now is to serve my nation and my state.” “I have ample time to make a decision.” The moderate politician evaded multiple attempts to pin down his ideas, stating that he will reveal his stances in December when he reveals whether or not he will run for reelection to his own seat or perhaps for president. “My political decision, whatever it may be, will be made in December,” he stated. In 2018, Manchin narrowly won reelection with a plurality of the vote. He faces an increasingly hard battle for reelection, as his state has rapidly moved to the right in recent decades, and current Republican Governor Jim Justice is considering a candidacy. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, a Republican, won her seat with 70 percent of the vote in 2020.
